Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas Showcases Bespoke Artwork In Support Of Sheikha Fatima Bint Mohammed’s Humanitarian Initiative (FMBI)
Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas is honoured to collaborate with Fatima Bint Mohamed Zayed’s initiative (FBMI) to support a humanitarian cause that empowers underprivileged societies. The resort has installed two rare hand weaved carpets, containing the words of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The murals will be displayed in the luxury resort’s lobby allowing hotel guests and visitors to view and admire the beautiful art pieces.
As the UAE marks 2019 as the Year of Tolerance, Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas continues to place high importance on initiatives that pay respect to people of different cultures. Earlier this year, the resort presented a unique artwork collection in collaboration with Emirati artist, Ashwaq Abdulla. The collection celebrated the story of Saadiyat Island, its true beauty and nature, in synergy with the rich history and vibrant wildlife of the UAE.
The words on display by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have been written in Arabic, and translates to;
“We are proud to celebrate the very essence of our local heritage. The people and culture of the Emirates are the backbone of our thriving society.”
“People of the UAE are the core of this country, a focal representation of their powerful development, innovation and pioneering endeavours across different industries, forming for the country we are honoured to be a part of today.”
“It is a privilege to collaborate with the Fatima Bint Mohamed Zayed Initiative on this project, which will help enrich the lives of Afghan women, their children and relatives, while preserving their culture and heritage. We join Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed in her relentless desire to reignite the lives of these women that have been dim for so many decades,” says Shaikha Al Nowais Corporate Vice President - Owner Relationship Management, Saadiyat Rotana Resort Hotel Management Corporation.
The link between the installation and the cause stems from Afghanistan’s intangible heritage, where carpet weaving is a craft passed down for generations. The custom-made pieces support FBMI’s initiative to empower and improve the lives of Afghan women and their families who have been affected by political unrest. FBMI provides women with sustainable employment in the traditional carpet production process, as well as other finely handcrafted items such as home décor and clothing.
“We are deeply proud to include two original art pieces to our existing collection. These handmade carpets are a work of outstanding artistry, skill and workmanship. Firstly, they contain the valuable words of our great leaders whose vision is to create a country that bridges people from different cultures and who believe in their co-existence; and secondly, these objects demonstrate the excellent craftsmanship and skill of Afghan women in weaving handcrafted carpets to perfection, an ancient method that has been passed down from generation to generation,” adds Fabrice Ducry, General Manager, Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas.
