The 4th Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, the one-of-a-kind immersive team-building experience returned to Dubai last week for the first race of the 2019 global series that now takes place in 12 cities worldwide. With up to 1,000 employees from Dubai’s biggest companies came together and took part in the one-mile (1.6 km) course around Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
Rose Rayhaan by Rotana was the official hotel partner for the event. By taking part in the race, our runners went ‘The Extra Mile’ for the charity partner, Emirates Red Crescent. 25% of the team entry fees, which equated to $33,489 was donated to help fund a year-round project based on the winning cause - Education! 103 teams from Dubai's biggest businesses took to the start line in the sold out-event but it was Emirates Steel that took the title, completing their 10 laps of the one-mile route in a time of 01:01:27 to lift the coveted trophy and become the ‘fastest firm in the city’. Competing fiercely for the top spot were Skydive Dubai and Standard Chartered Bank (Team 1) coming in just behind Emirates Steel in a time of 01:03:29 and 01:05:41 respectively.
The relay culminated with a fantastic celebration in the Race Village, open to all runners at the DIFC where the night kicked off with music as the race results came in. Runners were able to enjoy complimentary hospitality in the Race Village as part of race entry package (including main meal, dessert and soft drinks).
This year the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will take place in 12 cities across the world, including, Dubai, Mumbai, Sydney, New York, Tokyo, San Francisco, Paris, London, Shanghai, São Paulo, Singapore and Hong Kong! The baton is now handed to Mumbai on 15th March for the second race of the 2019 series.
