Park Rotana and Park Arjaan by Rotana are proud to take part in the WTTC Hotel Sustainability Basics Program aimed at reducing energy use, waste and carbon emissions.
In line with the UAE president's declaration of 2023 as the "year of sustainability", DCT is collaborating with the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) to showcase that Abu Dhabi is meeting the minimum level of sustainability expected across the global hotel industry. Ahead of COP28, DCT would like for all Abu Dhabi Emirate hotels to take part in the WTTC Hotel Sustainability Basics Program, which will be coordinated by the world's leading testing, inspection, and certification company SGS.
The 12 basic actions, developed by WTTC in close collaboration with leading global brands and industry associations, focus on actions which are fundamental to hotel sustainability and address tourism’s impact on the planet across a spectrum of critical issues. These include actions to measure and reduce energy use, measure and reduce water use, identify and reduce waste, and measure and reduce carbon emissions. It also includes a linen reuse program, the use of green cleaning products, the elimination of plastic straws, stirrers, and single-use plastic water bottles, the implementation of bulk amenity dispensers, as well as measures to benefit local communities.
Hotel Sustainability Basics is an internationally acknowledged and synchronized collection of sustainability indicators that every hotel must adopt as a minimum requirement. By endorsing this initiative, we are reinforcing a worldwide plea for inclusive and sustainable progress in the hospitality sector, which is verified and validated by SGS
