
Sharjah, UAE, 24th August 2014: Centro Sharjah, by Rotana is proud to welcome the Women Grand Masters and Grand Masters of Women’s FIDE Grand Prix Chess Players 2014. It is a series of six chess tournaments exclusively for women.
This is the 6th and the final tournament that will be inaugurated on the 24th of August and the tournament will take place from 25th August to 7th September 2014 at the world’s largest chess club in Sharjah UAE. The series will choose the challenger to the Women’s World Chess Championship in 2015.

Twelve players will compete in a single round robin of 11 rounds leaded by Hou Yifan of China, the Women’s World Champion rated 2661. Followed by GM Koneru Humpy of India (2598), WGM Ju Wenjun of China (2559), GM Harika Dronavalli of India (2521), GM Zhao Xue of China (2508), GM Kosintseva Tatiana of Russia (2494), GM Elina Danielian of Armenia (2490), GM Anna Ushenina of Ukraine (2487), GM Zhu Chen of Qatar (2464), WGM Alina L’Ami of Romania (2404), WGM Tuvshintugs Batchimeg of Mongolia (2346) and WGM Nafisa Muminova of Uzbekistan (2315).
Each player plays in four of these tournaments but only the best three results count. The player with the highest number of points will get the right to challenge the Women’s World Champion in a match next year.
The event is organized by the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, FIDE and Global Chess MFZE.
