Splash around in a waterpark
Imagine a world in which global warming melted the snow on top of the Hajar Mountains, forcing the penguins that lived there (bear with us on this one) to find a new home in the Arctic. The Iceland Water Park in Ras Al Khaimah is built around this exact scenario, with 18 snow- and ice-themed attractions including waterfalls, water slides and lazy rivers. There’s also a Snow Castle restaurant serving up gourmet food. You’ll feel chilly just thinking about it. Where to stay: The Cove Rotana Resort, Ras Al Khaimah is a short drive away. Embark on a mall trawl
As the shopping capital of the UAE, Dubai plays host to some impressive malls and the best bit is that they are fiercely air-conditioned. We rate BurJuman, which boasts more than 300 plush stores, ranging from luxury labels like Chanel to more affordable brands such as GAP . Grab an ice cream from Baskin Robbins for an extra dose of cool. Where to stay: BurJuman Arjaan by Rotana, Dubai provides easy access to the mall; it has a fab swimming pool too.
