In its 6th year since inception, Emirati Women's Day has been announced for 28th August this year.

Introduced by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Emirati Women's Day marks the anniversary of the creation of the UAE’s General Women’s Union in 1975.​ She launched the National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women in the UAE.

This special day is dedicated to the women of Emirati origin and celebrates their role in the community as well as their achievements and contribution towards the nation. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak herself is the country’s foremost champion of women's rights and has spent many years dedicated towards the growth and empowerment of women within the region and abroad.

The most prominent women in the UAE can be found working in fields as diverse as politics, the art scene, sports, aviation, fashion design and film-making. Many Emirati women hold top government positions and in fact, over 60% of public sector jobs are held by women.

Emirati women also work for the diplomatic corps serving both locally as well as on missions abroad. A number of them also serve as Ambassadors, which the country has been appointing from as far back as 2009.
