Travelling alone, for work or leisure, can be great, but there is always the need to be cautious. We’ve lined up some tips and tricks to ensure you travel safely when you're on your own.

Communicate your travel plans
Before you embark on your trip, leave the important information concerning your trip with your loved ones like your flight schedule, hotel reservation details, insurance information. Be sure to inform them of your room number after you've checked in to your hotel.

Read extensively about your destination
We all like to do a little research about where we're going but let that research also include information about travelling on your own in that destination.

Protect yourself appropriately
The two most important ways of doing this is to ensure you get sufficient travel insurance in case of mishaps and also to ensure that you don't attract unwanted attention when you travel. being low key can sometimes prove safer.

Don't reveal your check-in details
When checking in to a hotel, inform the receptionist beforehand not to read your room number out loud so as not to attract attention from someone who may be overhearing your conversation.

Keep your valuables safe
A great way to do this when you travel is to keep your valuables in a hotel safe. Carry photo ID around with you but leave your passport in the safe. Be aware of where and when you're using your smart phone to avoid it being snatched.

Keep copies of your passport and other travel documents printed or digitally just in case your passport does go missing when you bring it out.
