Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi is proud to share its achievements across various Corporate Social Responsibility activities covering the environment as well as the local community including its own staff.
The hotel and its colleagues have contributed towards many successes across 2018 till date. Within the property, Beach Rotana has saved 78 toner cartridges, 9,343kg of paper, 31,202kg of cardboard, 6,697kg of plastics and 82kg of cans through its recycling programme. Furthermore, the property has installed 13,331 LED lights across the hotel and saved 3,544,228 KWH worth of energy resulting in a reduction of 2,389.59 tons of CO² emission.
Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi already installed a food waste system in its Essence kitchen in 2017 to monitor and reduce food waste. In doing so, the property succeeded in keeping the waste levels to around 48% lower than baseline which resulted in saving 43,279 meals, or 17 tons of saved waste and a reduction of 74 tons of CO² emission.
Annually, Beach Rotana participates in Earth Hour and switches off all non-essential lights for one hour. It also took part in “Give a Ghaf” and planted five young trees on the property last December which came from the 1,000 seeds donated by the hotel in 2014.
Staff is always encouraged to participate in various activities: Starting with the Terry Fox Run every year, blood donation drives, Walk On and the infamous “Battle of the Bottles” where colleagues make a boat from plastics and compete with other Rotana properties in Abu Dhabi. An initiative aimed at encouraging waste segregation and reusing recyclables. In the spirit of ensuring that the colleagues are always a priority, Beach Rotana regularly plans activities such as physiotherapy consultation, stress yoga, laughter yoga and more to promote mental and physical health.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the hotel initiates a new idea every year. From giving away school bags to children of colleagues all the way to service at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Beach Rotana ensures that it participates in this month of giving.
In celebration of International Paperless Day on 30 July, Beach Rotana planned a full range of activities to involve as much of the hotel population as possible. Employees were requested to avoid printing any papers on that day saving a remarkable number of papers across the whole complex. Several activities took place in the hotel lobby to engage guests to participate and create awareness. The gardeners of Beach Rotana received special lunchboxes as a token of appreciation for all the hard work and passion they put into maintaining its valuable greenery. For the younger ones, the property’s Environment, Health & Safety Manager visited the hotel’s Kids Summer Camp which had the theme ‘Earth Week’ that week, to tell them about how our daily behaviors affect the environment we live in.
